Everyone likes to talk about themselves. And nobody likes to listen.
I’ve found my listening skills to be one of my greatest strengths.
I generally don’t chit-chat a whole lot. I do however, listen a lot. And I think I’m pretty good at it – Probably because I enjoy it.
In my personal life, my close friends love to tell me about their life and get my advice. I’m happy to help.
In business, it helps me to get a better understanding of people. It helps me understand their challenges, interests, personality, goals, opportunities, etc.. Ultimately that helps me find ways to help or work together.
People think they always need to be talking, bragging about themselves, or selling in order to get people to like them. I don’t think that’s true. In fact, most of the time no one really cares about what you’re saying, they’re just waiting until you stop so they can talk.
I suggest everyone make an effort to listen to their friends, family and colleagues a little more.
