Nothing happens unless you make it happen. For most people, it’s very rare for amazing opportunities to come banging on their door.
Manufacture serendipity. Make a lot of things happen. Throw many balls in the air to see what floats. Give yourself a better chance of getting lucky.
Take action. Want to start a company? Start talking to potential customers. Want grow your company? If you build it they will not necessarily come. Take immediate and right action towards your goals.
Opportunities come from people. “If you’re looking for an opportunity, you’re really looking for people.” – Reid Hoffman, Co-founder of LinkedIn. Build an awesome professional network through being helpful, being a connector, and sharing ideas.
Give. Be of value, and prove your own value, before you get. Share information, ideas, advice, and connections.
Be visible. You might be the best person for a given opportunity, but if no one knows it, it will never happen. You might have the best product or service for your customers, but if they don’t know about it, they can’t buy it. Be visible by blogging and regularly updating your network.
Grow yourself. Continually improve yourself so you can be better at all of the above.
Bottom line: Be proactive about creating opportunities for yourself. When you’re trying to create something, gravity is against you. No one is gonna do it for you. Choose yourself because no one else will.
